Hills Road Sports Department - WE NEED YOUR SUPPORT

Hills Road has a proud sporting tradition and the College is nationally recognised for its expanded sports programme.

Hills Road students have access to one of the largest sporting programmes in the country, a programme that encompasses depth and breadth catering for all levels of performance and interest. At a competitive level, Hills Road compete in over 20 sports on a local, regional and national level. Our success is acknowledged in our record winning Clifford Dixon trophy 2017, awarded to the most successful college in the Eastern Region across all sports. Equally we are aware of the role that activity can play in well-being. With greater focus on the mental health of students we have created some new initiatives aimed at the 'hard to reach' students. Initiatives such as 'Walk and Talk' encourages social skills alongside low level activity.

With such a huge sports programme we empower the students to be responsible for leadership, decision-making and organisation. A number of sports are almost entirely student led, providing opportunities for coach development and leadership opportunities. However, support is always welcome.

Over the years we have been exceptionally fortunate in having freinds of the College who donate their time as volunteers in a range of capacities improving and assisting the College's sport programme. Would you consider being involved?  Your time and energy would be appreciated, whether for a 'one-off' session or on a regular basis. We are particularly keen to create a rota of First aiders/physiotherapists to help out on a Wednesday afternoon at the sports ground but other possible areas of involvement include: officiating/coaching; photography; videoing & performance analysis. Other areas of interest would be those of you with specialist sports expertise being part of 'An Audience with' giving inspirational talks to our students. Or perhaps you have specific expertise in social media and marketing who can provide support to the student led Sports Committee.

Needless to say, we would be more than happy to hear from anyone who could financially support the sports programme and would consider sponsoring a sports team. Above all we would like to take this opportunity to extend a warm welcome to all alumni and invite you to come along to support the College teams on a Wednesday afternoon when most matches are played. With this in mind, I would particularly like to invite you to the matches of the week Wednesday 8th November.

Unfortunately many of our teams are away but the following are in Cambridge:
@ Luard Road, CB2 2PW
Women's football ESFA Cup v COWA
Men's 2nds football v IVO
Men's 1st Rugby v Peterborough - 2.00pm
AOC Sport regional tournaments @ Cambridge Regional College:
Netball and Squash 10.30 - 4pm
This will provide an opportunity to meet coaches, players, parents and alumni.

If you are unable to make this date we look forward to welcoming you at another match during the season. Fixtures updates are posted regularly on t he events section of the College Sport Facebook site.
