Hills Road Alumni Jack Merritt and Isobel Rowbotham are now working as part of the Learning Together initiative at the University of Cambridge.
 
Learning Together manage prison and university partnerships where students based at the University of Cambridge and students based in prison study together on university-level courses and form connections that make society more inclusive and safer by reducing re-offending.
 
The goal of Learning Together is to bring students together, providing Higher Education opportunities, so as to enable ‘education as the practice of freedom’. It’s now moving into its fourth year at the University of Cambridge and has transformed many lives; a broader network of prison and university partnerships has developed since the first partnership between Cambridge and HMP Grendon and now includes over 20 universities and 30 prisons.
 
‘Our mission is to provide evidence-led and robustly evaluated intellectually ambitious and individually and socially transformative learning opportunities through partnership working between higher education and criminal justice organisations.’
 
There are currently 3 partnerships between the University of Cambridge and three local prisons, offering 9 courses in total, in subjects ranging from law to maths and probability.
 
On the 21st October, members of the Learning Together team, students friends, family, and supporters are coming together for the Great South 10 mile run to raise money to support people leaving prison as they pursue their goals in higher education.
